In the game of poker, players are dealt cards, which are called poker chips. If the number of players is more than seven, then the dealer must supply poker chips. A white chip is the lowest valued chip, while a red chip is worth five whites. A blue chip, on the other hand, is worth two, four, or five reds. Players “buy in” to a hand by purchasing poker chips. In most games, players buy in for the same amount, usually the same denomination as the chips they have been dealt.

Some online poker sites may require you to convert funds when you deposit. Other sites may accept payments in different currencies, but convert the funds at a cheaper rate than your bank does. Some sites only accept U.S. dollars. These differences can add up over time if you’re constantly “top-up” your chip stack. While it may seem insignificant at first, you’ll have to deal with rounding issues if you plan to play for real money.

The limit of the game is also different for each player. Depending on the table and the stage of the game, you may have a limited number of chips to start with. In the first four betting intervals, you’ll usually have two chips. In the final betting interval, you’ll typically be allowed to bet a maximum of ten. If you have a pair or a royal flush, you can raise by fourteen chips.
